Meet market stallholder Oxfam Shop
Oxfam Shop Garden City will be representing Oxfam at the Fair Trade Christmas Market, 3rd & 4th December.
Oxfam Shop is the trading arm of Oxfam Australia, and it is the only wholly owned subsidiary. With 19 shops in major shopping centres across Australia, Trading generates over $10 million in Fair Trade sales annually which plays a major role in supporting Oxfam in achieving its External Change Goal – Economic Justice through growing the fair trade market in Australia.
Our unique Fair Trade products are sourced from individual workers, craft bodies and fair trade organisations in developing countries, mostly in South East Asia, southern Africa and the Pacific Rim. By trading with approximately 100,000 people around the world we bring long-term benefits to their communities including ongoing employment and a sense of independence.
We are committed to developing ongoing relationships with our suppliers rather than just making one-off purchases, and we go out of our way to be sensitive to a community's cultural, religious and artistic traditions and beliefs. We help producers with product development and commercial skills so the workers can become self-reliant in a wider market, and we pay as much as 50% of the order value in advance for groups that require capital.
Oxfam Shop believes in a fairer world and is registered as a Fair Trade organisation by the World Fair Trade Organisation. We also share WFTO's goals, such as:
- Commitment to fair trade
- Transparency in business practices
- Ethical workplaces
- Equal employment opportunities
- Concern for people and the environment
- Education about and advocacy of Fair Trade.
