Ethical Fashion Designer Spotlight #8: Esperance
Our very last designer for the Ethical Fashion Showcase Designer Spotlight is Esperance – you’ll be seeing her designs very shortly at the Fair Trade High Tea on Saturday 8 May!
Local designer, Esperance Kalonji, brings a fusion of both African and Australian influences to her designs. Esperance grew up in The Congo and attended a centre for people with disabilities where she trained in pattern making and sewing. Due to the outbreak of civil war in The Congo in 1997, Esperance and her husband were forced to separate. He moved to South Africa and Esperance and her children sought refuge in Zambia and then moved to Australia in 2005. The family was finally reunited in 2007, when her husband moved to Australia.
Esperance works with her clients to create designs that are unique, tailor-made pieces. For more information contact Esperance on 0402 279 299.
