Ethical Fashion Showcase: Designer Spotlight #1
In the lead up to Fair Trade Fortnight 2010 and our very special Fair Trade High Tea, we will be unveiling the fabulous labels and designers who will be featured in our Ethical Fashion Showcase during the Fair Trade High Tea one by one!
Proving that style doesn't have to be sacrificed for ethics, the Ethical Fashion Showcase will feature a wide range of amazing and ethical labels who produce both in Australia and source internationally.
Designer Spotlight #1: The Social Studio
The Social Studio is a space where clothing is created with the style and skills of the local refugee community in Melbourne. The label, launched in December 2009, aims to empower young people to achieve their dreams through social enterprise.
Using reclaimed fabric and garments saved from landfill, the designers remix their materials into original designs. The garments will then be sold in specially designed mobile shopping carts with the intention of activating key urban spaces, promoting social inclusion, community and vitality across the city.
